Bringing affordable healthcare to the developing world

TECHNOLOGY

World Doctor uses the Virtual Expert technology from Expert-24 to deliver all the decision support functionality in World Doctor applications. The Expert-24 solution allows the content to be delivered over a wide range of devices depending upon what is available in each theatre of operation. This includes mobile phone delivery, web based and PC based delivery. World Doctor combines different technologies where they further the company’s objectives for improving access to healthcare. The technology being used has been proved in the highest quality health delivery settings in the world, including Mayo Clinic. World Doctor now uses technology to provide low cost mechanisms for the developing world to benefit as well.

The Virtual Expert technology allows doctors to impart the most complex analysis and treatment protocols into a decision support solution without the involvement of any ICT staff. Furthermore, every data point is stored providing a rich seam of epidemiological data. The authoring doctors can change the decision support logic in one location and have every site and every delivery mechanism instantly updated automatically.

The decision support logic can not only embrace bodies of work such as the WHO’s IMCI guidelines, it can further tailor it depending on the region it is being used and the prevailing conditions (such as malaria risk at that location or time of year). Its recommendations are also based upon medications currently available at the location, skills of the health workers, and capabilities of the referral facilities, if any.
